Placenta Processing: Encapsulation, Tinctures, & Salves

Placenta Capsules

Encapsulation Options:

Traditional Steamed Placenta Encapsulation - FEE: $300

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has used the placenta as a powerful medicine for thousands of years. It has been used to increase energy, nourish the blood, and increase the kidney essence.

Help bring your body back into balance and replenish what was used during childbirth. My capsulation process, inspired by the TCM method of prepartion involves gently heating to an internal temperature of 160 degrees, then dehydrating the placenta before it is put into capsules. Using this prepartion is thought to bring out the placenta's healing and tonifying properties, as well as warming and healing the uterus. Ginger can be added upon request.

Raw Placenta Encapsulation - FEE: $350

In this method of preparation, the raw placenta is cleaned and dehydrated without steaming. Placenta that is dehydrated raw is very different then the TCM preparation. Raw placenta is extremely high in hormones such as progesterone and oxytocin, some of which may be lost when the placenta is steamed. Some people report experiencing a burst of wakefulness and energy with this preparation. This method is contrindicated for those who are Group B Strep (GBS) or Covid-19 positive.

Half and Half - FEE: $400

Half of the capsules will be steam prepared. The other half will be raw preparation.

**All encapsulations include pick-up (within a 60 miles), placenta keepsakes (such as prints and/or cord ornament) if requested, and informational guidelines on suggested use and storage.

Other Processing Options:

Placenta Tincture - FEE: $25 per 2oz bottle (when added to encapsulation services); Inquire about pricing if pick up and delivery are necessary for non-encapsulation clients.

Tincture preparation extends the longevity of a placenta's benefits. The placenta is preserved in a concentrated extract, using alcohol. This method requires only a very small portion of the placenta. Some of the benefits may include hormone stabilization in your postpartum cycles, less bleeding during those cycles, and increased energy. It can also be saved, if stored properly for use during menopause.

Placental Salve - FEE: $40 per 4oz jar (when added to encapsulation services); Inquire about pricing if pick up and delivery are necessary for non-encapsulation clients.

This preparation utilizes a small portion of your placenta in a salve (balm) combined with a variety of healing herbs and oils. The salve may help moisturize and soothe cracked or dry nipples, eczema, hemmorhoids, diaper rashes, perineal tears and c-section scars (allow scar to heal before applying salve) to name just a few.

Delivery Rates:

  • Within 60-miles of Mountain House, CA: $50
  • For deliveries farther than 60 miles: Rates for pick-up and delivery are individually calculated

What are your safety protocols?
  • Safe storage is important to us. We check the temperature check of placenta at time of pick up and store it in a dedicated refrigerator with thermometer, steamed placentas are cooked to an internal temperature of 160 degrees and dehydrated at the same temperature.
  • We prepare in dedicated placenta kitchen on our office. The preparation space and equipment is cleaned with hospital grade disinfectant before and after preparation of your placenta. Multiple use equipment is cleaned and then soaked in a hospital grade disinfectant. Followed by a wash with clean water.
  • We use personal protective equipment (PPE): mask, hair covering, gloves, googles, and apron.

How do you ensure placentas are not mixed up?
We only ever process one placenta at a time and generally only have one placenta in our posession at a time. At all times that your placenta is with us, containers it is in are labeled with your name.

How do I store my placenta until you pick it up?
We pick up 10am-10pm most days. Please bring a small cooler, and 2 1-gallon zip lock bags to double bag your placenta. Nursing staff can supply ice. Please check the ice regularly to ensure proper cooling is maintained in the container. If pick-up is delayed or if your hosptial requires immediate removal of the placenta, it can be stored in your fridge for 48 hours. Please freeze if it will be with you longer than that.

How long does processing take?
Most placenta capsules, tinctures, and salves are ready for pick-up within 48 hours. Tinctures take an additonal 6 weeks to infuse before they are ready for use.

How many capsules will I get?
I use a "00" size capsule. Most people will get between 100-120 capsules.

What is the suggested dosing for capsules & tinctures?
Your package will come with suggested usage guidelines. In the University of Nevada Las Vegas study, study participants were instructed to take two capsules, three times a day, for the first four days of the study, and then two capsules, two times a day, for days five through twelve, and then two caps, one time a day, until the end of the study (3-4 weeks postpartum).
